Political update

"In a press conference held Sunday (the 24th of September) evening after his return from the US, president Omar al-Bashir has restricted the movement of all the Americans in Sudan at a geographical limit of 25 kilometers, as from the Republican Palace in Khartoum."

I doubt this has made it to any major news outlets in Europe, and probably not the States either. But the entire US Embassy in Khartoum, has just spent their weekend here in Juba, so I really don't think its anything bit a nutty demagogue flexing his crazy-muscle. The reason, apparently, is that during Bashirs recent visit to the States, he was restricted in his travels. Turns out he came through Havana (not your best bet any day, I am guessing, if you wish to pass through US Immigrations without hassle), an country from whence anyone arriving into the States has their visa annotated with a travel-restriction. This is hardly surprising, given US - Cuban relations over the past decades. Nevertheless, a mistake was made, but regardless the apologies made to Bashir, he had to go and metaphorically stamp his feet like a toddler not getting candy at the supermarket... Scary, is what it is, considering the that he is the man who can make or break the future of Darfur.
